Mary Lou (Comp) Shakespeare, 93, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Papich Kuba Funeral Service, 1228 2nd Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401. Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m. with a burial following at Czech National Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at the funeral home.
Mary was born September 2, 1931, in Palo, Iowa, daughter to Willard and Helen (Reidel) Comp. She enjoyed anything outside; gardening, bird watching, being out in nature, fishing, and feeding the birds. She also enjoyed going to the casino and most importantly spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her children, Dawn (Larry) Bender, Dorothy Workman, Debra (Tracy) Langguth, and Donna (Larry) Frantz; seventeen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, sister, Connie (Ron) Fish; and many other loving family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Shakespeare; children, Diane Voss and Dennis Shakespeare, and siblings, Marian “Babe” Kohl and Robert “Bodie” Comp.
Memorials may be made to the family.
