Mary Louisa Lensch, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Hiawatha Care Center. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Committal services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Nancy Redman and the Rev. Beth Hilkerbaumer.
Mary was born June 22, 1927, in Marshalltown, the daughter of J. Earl and Virdie (Marken) Kneeland. She graduated from Marshalltown High School and St. Luke's Professional School of Nursing. On Oct. 12, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Kenneth Lensch in Marshalltown. After raising her family, she worked at Weight Watchers for 20 years. Mary was a devout Christian with a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the Excelsior Club and for 50-plus years belonged to the card club. In the earlier years of their marriage, Mary and Ken loved bowling. For nearly 14 years, she resided at Keystone Cedars, where she enjoyed serving coffee and helping with Sunday services. Mary also enjoyed reading and playing bingo. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Allan) Roberts of Monroe Township, N.J.; two sons, John (Diana) Lensch and James (Stacey) Lensch, both of Marion; seven grandchildren, Chad (Ruth) Roberts of Wallingford, Pa., Matt (Allison) Robicelli of Baltimore, Md., Anna (Andrew) Mosier of Modesto, Calif., Erin Lensch of San Francisco, Daniel Lensch of Turlock, Calif., Brian (Jenny) Lensch of Marion and Mehgan (Chad) Diefenderfer of Iowa City; 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Atticus, Toby, Caroline, Morgan, Lauren, Peyton, Braden, Vivien and Henry, plus one great-granddaughter due to arrive in July; sister, Irma Vance of Mesa, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Joan Lensch of Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and one sister.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to the American Lung Association of Iowa at 2530 73rd St., Urbandale, IA 50322.
