MARY I. PLATNER SCHNELL LEGET

Mary I. Platner Schnell Leget, 80, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held Friday, Nov. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Mary Irene Platner was born May 15, 1937, in Mount Vernon, Iowa, to Glenn and Marie (Stoneking) Platner. She grew up on
a farm in Marion, Iowa, and was a 1955 graduate of Marion High School. She married Russell E. "Gene" Leget in 1974 in Galena, Ill. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1998.
Mary had worked as a bookkeeper at Penrose Hardware Store and, more recently, at Stickley Electric in Maquoketa for many years.
Mary enjoyed gardening, canning, listening to music and being with nature. She especially cherished time with her family and friends. Mary's fun-loving spirit and kindness will be greatly missed.
Those left to honor Mary's memory include her children, Rogene Ann Schnell of Vadnais Heights, Minn., and Craig Allen (DiAnna) Schnell of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a brother, Allen Platner of Marion; a sister, Glenna Whitmarsh of Texas; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and best friend, John Stockel of Lancaster, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell E. "Gene" Leget; a son, William "Bill" Schnell; sisters, Pauline and Harriet; and infant brother, Glenn Wayne.
