MARY ANNE KIEFER

Mary Anne Kiefer, 84, lifelong Iowa City resident, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Father John
Spiegel will officiate. The family will greet friends Sunday at Lensing Funeral Service from 4 to 7 p.m., with a parish wake service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or an organization of one's choice.
Mary Anne was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Serup) Sladek. She grew up in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School. Mary Anne married Richard Kiefer in a joint ceremony with his brother and her friend, Donald and Norma Kiefer, on July 18, 1950, in Riverside, Iowa.
Mary Anne liked people and lived a very social life. She and Rich had many friends with whom they liked to visit or to entertain. Their home was host to many dinners and evenings over cards and her cooking was loved by her family and friends.
Mary Anne and Rich loved to travel, traversing the country on many road trips over the years, both to sight see and to visit their children and grandchildren. For over 30 years, they wintered in Marco Island, Fla., where they had a large circle of friends and many guests.
She is survived by her children, Joe Kiefer (Debbi) of Houston, Texas, Julie Kiefer of Tulsa, Okla., Emily Shultz (Dave) of Iowa City and Bill Kiefer (Julie) of Johnston, Iowa; her grandchildren, Pamela Moore, Carolyn Kiefer, Mark Kiefer, Alex Lobodiac, Sam Lobodiac, Chris Shultz, Cory Shultz (Nino), Lauren Kiefer, Lucas Kiefer, Katie Saf and Clint Robbins; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Park of Iowa City; and a brother, Paul Sladek of Hills.
Mary Anne was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband, Richard; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Margaret Roesel.
