Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Mary was born May 8, 1964, in Des Moines to Jack and Janis Kiburz. Mary graduated from Ruby Van Meter in Des Moines. She had many great experiences growing up in West Des Moines. She lived at Central Iowa Residential Services Incorporated (CIRSI) in Marshalltown and Woodward Resource Center in Woodward. First and foremost, Mary loved her family and cherished moments together. Wherever she lived, she always wanted to be "home" in West Des Moines around family and friends. Mary loved her great-nieces and nephews, and enjoyed planning special treats for them. Mary competed in Special Olympics over the years. She was an avid sports fan and cheered for the Valley Tigers, Drake Bulldogs, Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. She enjoyed shopping, going out to eat, animals and interacting with others.
Mary is survived by her father, Jack; brothers, Paul (Cheryl) and John (Kelly); sister, Jane (Tom) Daniels; aunt, Joyce Little; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Janis.
Memorial contributions may be directed to CIRSI or the Iowa Special Olympics.
