Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Colston, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 14, 2018, at Heritage Specialty Care. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial will be in
St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Mary was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Andes) Gitt. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. Mary was united in marriage to Kenneth Colston on Nov. 7, 1959, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Kathy worked for many years at Bell Telephone and Amana Refrigeration, where she retired from in 2001. Kathy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed watching the Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and most of all, spending time with her family.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Kenneth Colston; her daughter, Tammy (Phil) Reed of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Dennis (Teri) Colston of Cedar Rapids and Chad (Joan) Colston of Hiawatha; five grandchildren, Blake (Jodee) Reed, Alison Reed (Adam Heying), Corey Reed, Bryce Colston and Courtney Colston; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Parker, Miles and Brady; and her sister, Karen Thiher of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Janice Gitt and Sharon Gitt.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in her name.
