MARY KATHRYN PFLUGHAUPT
Central City
Mary Kathryn Pflughaupt, 80, of Central City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. No service will be held at this time, cremation will follow the visitation. A private family committal service will take place at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City at a later date. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Mary was born on June 18, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy (Henderson) Whiting. On June 22, 1958, in Central City, Mary was united in marriage to Robert H. Pflughaupt. She managed Bob's Feed Outlet in Central City, for many years, retiring in 2002. Mary was a member of the Hills Mill Homemaker Club, Broken Bit Saddle Club and was an exhibitor at the Linn County Fair. She was an avid crafter, enjoying crocheting, knitting and sewing. Mary also enjoyed horses, reading, being outdoors, camping and fishing. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Kristi (Matt) Allen of Macksburg, Iowa, Kevin (Tammy) Pflughaupt of New Hampton, Iowa, Kathi (Marc) Kerscher of Central City and Kendra (Gary) Greif of Central City; 11 grandchildren, Jason (Lindsay) Stanford of Adel, Iowa, Kelli Gordon of Grimes, Iowa, Angie (Dustin) McVay of Winterset, Iowa, Kara Pflughaupt (Woody Hefner) of New Hampton, Kiley (Eric) Williams of Waukee, Iowa, Ryan (Rachel) Oberhauser of Waterloo, Iowa, Tyler Oberhauser of Central City, Kyle Oberhauser of Central City, Justin (Nicole) Kerscher of Kansas City, Mo., Sarah (Jonathan) Lochner of Coralville, Iowa, and Rachel (Luke) Hennessey of Prairieburg, Iowa; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (Norman) Price of Hopkinton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Pflughaupt; grandson, Aaron Greif; brother, Larry Whiting; and sister-in-law, Linda Whiting.
Memorials in Mary's memory may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.
