MARY NAOMI KALISCH
Cedar Rapids
Mary Naomi Kalisch, 93,
of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully from this life on Jan. 29, 2022.
The youngest daughter of Wesley and Elizabeth Burke Kinder, Mary was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Bertram Kalisch Jr. She was led by her deep faith in all that she did, especially her love and devotion to her family. A charter member of St. Pius X, she spent many years in the Legion of Mary, and this group and their steadfast prayers to the Blessed Mother remained very important to her.
Mary was a friend to so many who had none, leaving a legacy of compassion, seeking how best to serve others, and giving of one's self and time. She will be remembered for her love of God, her sense of humor and her generous spirit.
Mary is survived by six children, Deborah (Bruce) Ogden, Bertram (Eleni) Kalisch, James Kalisch, Elizabeth (Tom) Drahos, Roberta (Robert) Shauchunas and Jeanne Smith. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertram; her daughter, Barbara; her grandchildren, Davon and Skylar; her brothers, Wesley and Jim; and her sister, Betty.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Masks are recommended for those attending the funeral.
