MARY JOAN (MARY JO) HENTON
Zanesville, Ohio
Mary Joan (Mary Jo) Henton, 86, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Aug. 9, 2017, surrounded with love by her family and "extended family" of caregivers from the Memory Care Unit of Brookdale Assisted Living, Zanesville, and Hospice of Central Ohio, Newark.
Mary Jo was born March 16, 1931, in Manhattan, Kan., a daughter of the late Louis Samuel and Eliza Vaughn (McCandless) Gilmore. She grew up in Manhattan, where she met and married C. Ray Henton on Dec. 31, 1949. She loved and supported her husband every step of the way through his long and courageous batter with heart disease.
She was happiest being outside in her flower gardens and she found particular delight in digging out every dandelion in sight. Over her lifetime she had many different jobs that she enjoyed doing, but her favorite was working from home doing computer work for Tech-Lab Industries Inc. out of Grand Prairie, Texas.
She is survived by two sons, Randall Ray Henton of Manhattan, Kan., and Robert Dean Henton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Sandra Lynn (Henton) Heaton of Zanesville; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert S. Gilmore of Grand Prairie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, C. Ray Henton; a son, Scott Wayne Henton; and a brother, Norval H. Gilmore.
Her family thanks all of the nurses and staff for their ongoing care and support for her as well as the "never ending" supply of cookies that were lovingly given to her. Her mental and physical struggle of coping with the debilitating progression of dementia is now over and through the love of Jesus Christ she is renewed and strong of mind and body.
Please sign Mary Jo's online guestbook and light a candle in her memory at www.bolin-dierkesfuneralhome.com.
