MARY JANE OLDORF
Marion
Mary Jane Oldorf, 83, of Marion passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018. Mary Jane was born Nov. 15 1934, the daughter of LeRoy and Doris Stout. She grew up on the family farm east of Mechanicsville and graduated from high school in 1952. Mary Jane attended and graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon with a degree in elementary education. She taught one year in Des Moines followed by 35 years in the Cedar Rapids schools. She retired in 1991, with most of her teaching career at Taylor Elementary followed by her last six years at Wilson Middle School. On Nov. 23, 1957, Mary Jane was united in marriage to Glenn Oldorf at the Little Brown Church. She lived all of her working years in the Cedar Rapids area. A special joy was spending weekends and summer vacations at the cottage on Lake Delhi.
Following retirement, Mary Jane and Glenn traveled extensively in their motor home. They enjoyed spending their winters at Sundance Park in Casa Grande, Ariz. Mary Jane kept her hands busy with projects in counted cross stitch, knitting and quilting. She was especially competent in paper piecing, having taught several classes while at Sundance Park. At an early age, Mary Jane learned the joy of playing cards from her parents. She was an excellent bridge player and thoroughly enjoyed beating Glenn in cribbage.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Glenn; and a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Edith Willey of Mechanicsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
