Mary Jane Jacobson, age 82, passed this life on March 7, 2025, at Cottage Grove Place.
She was born on September 11, 1942, to Lee and Bernadine McCall. She grew up with her sister, Shirley Melby, her brother, Denny McCall, and her cousin, Larry Parr.
She was raised on a farm near Castana, Iowa, and graduated from Castana High School in 1960. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated with her B.A. in 1964. She completed her M.A. from Western State College of Colorado in 1968. She was a lifelong teacher of herself and others.
She married William C. Jacobson in 1963. She is survived by her husband, her two children, Brad Jacobson and wife Polly, Susan Larsen and husband Ditlev. Her four grandsons, Sawyer Jacobson, Hans Larsen, Conner Jacobson, and Teis Larsen were the highlight of her life.
She has a large extended family that helped shape her beliefs and share her life. She traced family genealogy back several generations. She understood her heritage. She enjoyed the search.
She was a Math and Business teacher in many different schools in the Cedar Rapids Community School District. She was one of the four founding teachers at Metro High School. She retired in 2001. She was active in many different organizations, and an active quilter. She shared many of her quilts with friends and family members. She enjoyed the many connections she had in the quilting world.
She enjoyed many interesting experiences. She had many friends and knew how to be a friend. She liked people and found value in all those she encountered.
We remember and celebrate her life. She made a difference in the lives of those who were important to her. We are better because she was here.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2025. A livestream of the service will be available at https://firstlutherancr.online.church. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
