Mary M. Hesse, 87, of Iowa City, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation one hour before the service and again during the reception at the church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Briarwood Health Care Center, which so lovingly cared for Mary for nearly two years.

Mary Maureen Sheeley was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Waterloo, the daughter of Carrol and Lillian (Thieman) Sheeley. She attended Orange Township School in Black Hawk County, graduating as valedictorian. She married Erich J. Hesse on Sept. 11, 1949. Following their marriage, she worked for many years as bookkeeper for Erich's painting business.
She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she participated in many senior activities. She enjoyed reading, cooking, collecting cookbooks, listening to music, playing bingo and most of all, her grandchildren!
Her family includes her two daughters, Kathleen Bugg and Karen Warner (Harold), both of Iowa City; grandchildren, Nicole Berry (Greg), Rochelle Richard, Ericha TeBockhorst (Jordan), Jeremy Warner and Olivia Warner; great-grandchildren, Jade Gravelin, Taylor Moel, Jake Moel, Griffin Berry and Graysen Berry; great-great-granddaughter, Nelielle Wilson; and her brothers, Donald Sheeley (Dorothy) of Omaha, Neb., and Douglas Sheeley (Cathy) of Waterloo.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Erich.
