Mary K. Harman, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with burial to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Mary was born May 28, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harry H. and Katie (Funcke) Holmes. Mary was united in marriage to Alvin L. Harman on Jan. 21, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. Together they raised eight children. Mary was a longtime member of St. Wenceslaus Church and participated in many activities and served on the liturgy committee.
Mary is survived by her children, Bonnie (Dwayne) May, Alvin M. Harman, Spear (Leanne) Harman, Virginia McCotter, Mary Joan Harman, Willard Harman and Bridget (John) Ferry; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters, Joan Phillips and Rita Reilly; daughter-in-law, Penny Barry; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Holmes and Frances Holmes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; son, Lauren Harman; her granddaughter, Rebecca Harman; and her siblings, Barbara Painter, Fannie Davidson and William, Peter and Harry M. Holmes.
