Mary H. Hocking, age 101 passed away on February 24, 2025.
Services will be held on March 8th at 10:30 a.m. at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, 955 5th Avenue, downtown Marion, where a visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial: Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary was born on November 22, 1923, to Lena (Schobert) and Alois Loewen. She graduated from St. Columbkille's high school class of 1942. Mary worked at the Savannah Ordinance Proving Grounds before marrying Donald N Hocking at St. Columbkille's on Oct. 16, 1948. Later Mary worked at Sears, then Smulekoff’s, making custom drapes.
Mary is survived by a daughter Linda (Kenneth) Kelchen of Dyersville, a son Thomas (Sheila) of Solon, five grandchildren Sean, Nashville, TN, Kimberly (Jaiver) Arevalo, Phoenix AZ, Kevin (Mimi) Sunbury, OH, Peter (Inna) Phoenix, AZ, Andrew (Allyson), Kansas City, KS; a brother Al (Bunnie) Loewen; 4 great-grandchildren, Miyuki, Denver, Emma and Ford.
Mary was preceded in death by a son-in-law Kenneth Kelchen, brothers Carl, Maurice, and Clarence Loewen, and sisters-in-law Anna Mae and Shirley Loewen.
Donations can be made to a memorial fund or hospice of Mercy Hospital.
