Mary Franta, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Trinity-St James United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include six children, Janet (Doug) Schwandt, Joyce Franta, Judith Franta, James Franta Jr., Joel Franta of Cedar Rapids and Juanita (Jeff) Kipp of Noblesville, Ind.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; along with several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Sr.; her parents; and brothers, Melvin and Vernon Oswald.
Mary Ida Franta was born Aug. 22, 1937, to Harvey and Ethel Oswald in Dubuque, Iowa. She married James Franta Sr. on Jan. 19, 1958, in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Mary will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
