Mary Jeanne Erickson, 83, of Fairfield, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at Mercy Iowa City.
Jeanne was born July 18, 1931, at Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Josephine Mernin Burns. She graduated from St. Mary's High School at Storm Lake in 1950 and from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Sioux City in 1953. Jeanne married Kenneth R. Erickson on May 15, 1954, at Storm Lake.
She was a registered nurse and had worked in Fort Dodge; Las Cruces, N.M.; Boone; University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; Jefferson County Hospitals, and was the Fairfield School District school nurse from 1972 until 1992.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Retired School Personnel, bridge clubs, Fairfield Women's Club, St. Mary Altar & Rosary, P.E.O., coffee clubs and Home Health Aide board.
Deceased family members include her parents and her brother, Robert Irwin Burns.
Surviving include her husband, Ken; three sons, Steven Ray (Carolyn) Erickson of Redmond, Wash., David Jay (Marla) Erickson of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Jennifer) Erickson of Elizabethtown, Pa.; one daughter, Mary Beth Erickson of Fairfield; four grandchildren; her sister, Carol Ann Burns of Cypress, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with Father Nick Adam officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Raymond Funeral Home and at the church one hour before the service Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Fairfield Public Library or to St. Mary Catholic Church.
Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
