Mary F. Elsbury, 78, of rural Lamont, Iowa, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday morning, Dec. 20, 2021. Private family services were held at Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home, Winthrop, with the Rev. John Haugen officiating. Interment: St. Albert Cemetery, rural Lamont, Iowa. Mary Florence Gerdemann was born June 19, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph John and Tharsilla (Steffen) Gerdemann. She received her education at the Lamont schools. Mary was united in marriage to Larry Charles Elsbury on April 23, 1976, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamont. Mary worked on the family dairy farm and loved doing field work.
Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. She enjoyed planting flowers, spending time with her children and grandchildren, mowing lawn, playing cards, teaching religious education classes, going on day trips with Larry, going out to eat and cleaning. She will be remembered as always being early for any event and her saying, "Gotta eat."
Mary is survived by her husband, Larry Elsbury of Lamont; son, Tom (Sherri) Nolan of Strawberry Point; three daughters, Kari Elsbury (Jeff Davis) of Bronson, Fla., Holly Elsbury (Dylan Leech) of Cedar Rapids and Mary Lou Elsbury of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Dr. Sai Le "Schwarm" of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Dean (Mary) Gerdemann of Springville and Lyle Gerdemann of Robins; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jill Le; and her son, Chad Elsbury.
The family would like to thank Cedar Valley Hospice for the excellent care that they gave to Mary.
