Mary Ellen Northup, 82, of Fairfax, died Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Teahen Funeral Home.
Mary is survived by her husband, Marion “Bud” Northup of Fairfax; children, Mark (Kathy) Northup of Fairfax and Michelle (Mark) Heglie of Princeton, Minn.; and four grandchildren, Mark Jr. (Emme) Northup, Emily Northup, Daniel Ross and Aubrey (Lindsey Burcar) Ross.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Monica Northup.
Mary Ellen Ruby was born on Oct. 13, 1940, daughter of Paul Lloyd and Marie Hannah (Boley) Ruby in Ottumwa, Iowa. She graduated from Ottumwa High School then when on to NE Missouri State, now known as Truman University, where she received her B.A., then graduated from the University of Iowa with her master's degree in teaching. On Sept. 2, 1958, she was united into marriage to Marion “Bud” Arthur Northup in Ottumwa, Iowa. Mary became at teacher in the Cedar Rapids School District in 1962, and then retired in 1994.
Mary was a member of Clover Ridge Church and the National Education Association. She enjoyed reading, spending time with special friends and traveling.
