Mary Elizabeth Rogers, 87, died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at St. Wenceslaus Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Pleasantview Home in Kalona or to St. Wenceslaus Church.
Mary was born Nov. 7, 1935, in Iowa City, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Wanning) Rogers. She was a graduate of City High School.
Mary was employed at the University of Iowa in West Lawn for many years. Prior to that she was employed at Economy Advertising.
Mary and her mother enjoyed trips to casinos and one-day outings with her sister. She was a very classy lady who loved to shop, travel, and cherished the time spent with family and friends. Mary had a vibrant personality, a quick wit, and a wonderful sense of humor.
Mary was a longtime member of St. Wenceslaus Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Hills Friends Club.
Mary will be greatly missed by her nephew and six nieces, Pat (Randy) Troyer of Kalona, Mike (Kathy) Rice of Mt. Vernon, Sandy (Barry) Schloss of Yankton, S.D., Jane (Larry) Crochet of Santa Fe, Texas, Mary (Kevin) Emge of Grinnell, Barb (Robert) Wisthoff of Michigan City, Ind., and Joan (Doug) Williams of Danville; 20 great-nieces and -nephews; 18 great-great-nieces and -nephews, and many extended family members and special friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Irene; and brother-in-law, Francis Rice.
