Mary E. Polhamus-Anthony, 80, of What Cheer, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital. Visitation: 11:00-1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Funeral: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Mary was born on October 25, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Naomi (Hartgrave) Kleinmeyer. She was united in marriage to Kermit Polhamus in McGregor, Iowa.
Mary enjoyed attending garage sales and auctions. She was an avid painter, sewer, and collector of angels. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children, Barbara (Jeff) Rhoads, Deborah (Mark) Mullan, and Ann Marie (Todd) Griffith; grandchildren, Jenny (Scott) Gramling, Brad (April) Rhoads, Brandon Mullan, Veronica Mullan, Jeremy Mullan, Amanda Henkel, Hunter Griffith, and Natasha Fumia; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Otis, Caleb, Madyson, Eli, and Finley; sister, Jeanne Garringer; brothers-in-law, Jim Fanning, and Eldon Penrod; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Raymond W. Himes, Kermit C. Polhamus, and Keith Anthony; siblings, Robert Kleinmeyer, Ed Kleinmeyer, Gayle Fanning, and Judy Penrod, and brother-in-law, Jim Garringer.
