Mary Den Beste, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on March 13, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at First Lutheran Church, 1000 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mary was born May 1, 1940, in Wall Lake, Iowa, to Reuben and Edith (Wood) Hedberg. She graduated from Chatfield High School in 1958. Mary's first love was her family and raising four children. She had a strong Christian faith and was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church. She owned a restaurant in Sheldon, Iowa, called Mary's Hamburger Shop and had a long career at St. Luke's Hospital for 32 years. She loved cooking, gardening, animals, entertaining for friends and family, and the occasional nickel slot.
Mary is survived by her children, Michael Den Beste, John Den Beste and Lynette (Brian) Weberg, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Curtis Den Beste of Iowa City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, with another expected in August.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Edith Hedberg; her brother, Gerald (Sonny) Hedberg; and her beloved dog, Wrinkles.
