Mary Alice Connell, 81, of Solon, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Solon United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St.
Mary was born April 11, 1932, in rural Lisbon, the daughter of John and Helen (Bohr) Light. She married William J. Connell on Aug. 18, 1951, in Cheyenne, Wyo. She was a member of the Solon United Methodist Church and Solon American Legion Auxiliary.
Mary worked at Bishops Cafeteria, United Fire & Casualty Co., Solon Implement, Iowa Implement and Lee's Ag Clinic. She was treasurer for the town of Solon and the Methodist Church.
Mary was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Mary loved spending time with her family and friends.
Mary is survived by her sons, Steve (Kathy) Connell of Lisbon and Lee (Lisa) Connell and David (Linda Williams) Connell, both of Solon; nine grandchild-ren; four step-grand-children; 10 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Leigh and Rose Schwichtenberg; two sisters-in-law, Alberta Light and Phyllis Schump; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Connell on Oct. 11, 2002; two brothers, Marvin and Norbert Light; and two infant brothers.
