MARY MARCIA NEWHOUSE CLEMMENS

Mary Marcia Newhouse Clemmens, 79, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be one hour before the service, and a luncheon will be served following.
Mrs. Clemmens was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Sigourney, Iowa, to Newell and Mildred Grove Newhouse. She graduated from North English High School in 1955 and moved to Cedar Rapids. She worked for Collins Radio twice, retiring the second time after an additional 25 years of service and was a certified professional secretary. She married Gerald Clemmens on Aug. 3, 1958, in South English.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; a daughter, Karie (Tim) Saupe of Parker, Colo.; two sons, Keel (Danielle) of Urbandale and Kristopher of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin Clemmens of Macomb, Ill., and Nathan and Nicholas Clemmens of Gilbert, Ariz.; two stepgrandchildren, Nicole Jaschen of Orange City and Adam Jaschen of Iowa City; a sister, Muriel Kirkpatrick of Lincoln City, Ore.; and a brother, Kelly (Marsha) Newhouse of Robins. Also surviving are five nephews, five great-nieces and seven great-nephews.
She wishes to acknowledge Heidi Schill Clemmens of Macomb, Ill., and Wendy Gerth of Gilbert, Ariz., who were also very special to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for 57 years, a member of PEO Chapter L1 and also a member of the East Iowa Heirloom Quilters Guild. She also was a volunteer for the Catherine McAuley Center and St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary. She and Gerald enjoyed many years dancing together, most recently with the Congenial One Hundred. Mary also enjoyed traveling, a highlight being a trip to Ireland.
The family wishes to thank all the medical professionals, the staff of Hospice UnityPoint and especially the caregivers, for her comfort and pain management.
Mary donated her body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for research purposes, and her cremains will be interred in the St. Paul's United Methodist Church Columbarium at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul's or the American Cancer Society.
