MARY "CHRIS" CHRISTINE BOLDEN
Cedar Rapids
Mary "Chris" Christine Bolden, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018. A memorial in her honor will
be held Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. A rosary will begin at 5 p.m. with visitation following concluding at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at St. Matthew Catholic Church with visitation one hour before. A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Chris was born Jan. 20, 1948, the daughter of William and Marguerite "Peggy" (Marshall) Sedlak. She was a graduate of Regis High School in Cedar Rapids. Chris retired from St. Luke's Hospital after more than 40 years of service. Upon retiring, she volunteered her time to several charities and non-profits, including Metro Catholic Outreach, Mended Hearts and AARP. A devout believer, Chris was a very active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and sharing laughs with family and friends. Chris was a very optimistic person who was always one to put others before herself. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Steven Frederiksen; and several members of the Marshall and Sedlak family.
Left to cherish Chris' memories are her children, Matthew Bolden of Central City, Elizabeth (John) Dunkelberger of Cedar Rapids and Andrew Bolden. Also surviving are a sister, Rosemary Frederiksen of Troy Mills; and two grandchildren, Lexis Gibson and Brody Dunkelberger, both of Cedar Rapids.
A special thank-you to all who cared for Chris at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, St. Luke's Hospital and at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Chris' children would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all of her friends who throughout this journey have become more like family.
