Mary Margaret Burns, 77, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at her home in Anamosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa, with interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Goettsch Funeral Home,
Anamosa, where a parish vigil service will be held
at 3:30 p.m.

Mary Margaret McNamara was born Dec. 15, 1936, in rural Winthrop, Iowa. She was the daughter of Dennis and Mary Henry McNamara. She graduated from the Central City High Schools in 1955. After graduation, she worked at the Collins Radio plant in Anamosa.
She was united in marriage to Lyle Burns on July 31, 1957, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg. In 1963, she became a stay-at-home mom. She returned to work in 2000 at the Anamosa Care Center as a housekeeper. Mary was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa.
Surviving are three children, Vicky (Michael) Ellis, Anamosa, Karla (Ish) Khan, Northville, Mich., Michael Burns, Monticello; four grandchildren, Tony Dirks, Chris Ellis and Megan Ellis and Adam Kha; three siblings, Frances (Harris) Harmsen, Monticello, Vincent (Doris) McNamara, Prairieburg, and John (Jo) McNamara, Anamosa; and two sisters-in-law, Lois McNamara, Anamosa, and Jane McNamara, Backus, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle in 1991; three brothers, Rich, Virgil and Dennis; and three sisters, Lorretta Alves, Regina Ahlrichs and Pauline Kelly.
Mary was a capable and independent women who could do anything she set her mind to doing. She dearly loved her family and friends who will miss her greatly. She is now happily reunited with her husband, Lyle, who she missed deeply for so many years.
