Mary Margaret Brown, 90, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday, March 13, from 2 until 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. A committal service will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mary was born April 15, 1925, in Armah, Iowa, to Augustine and Margaret (Holderness) Van Dee. She was united in marriage to Howard E. Brown on Aug. 23, 1943, in Parnell. In this union, 13 children were born.
She was a member since 1961 of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she was active with the Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by four sons Edward (Sharron), Thomas (Sharon Mow), Greg (Ginger) and Mark (Kari) Brown; nine daughters, Mary Anne White, Joyce Huelsenbeck, Cecilia Regan, Pam Brown and Michele (Paul) Kaplan, all of Cedar Rapids, Connie (Arthur) Berge of Osage, Sharon (Russell) Smith of Hiawatha, Judy (Ralph) Lundquist of Solon and Theresa (Doug) Kaestner of Marion; many grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren; siblings, Arnold Mike (Beverly) Van Dee, Florence (Robert) Moellers and Helen Mendenhall, all of Cedar Rapids, Sarah Martens in Shellsburg, Carl (Sandra) Van Dee of Oregon and Betty Lou McGee of Marshalltown; sisters-in-law, Wanda Van Dee of Marion, Elizabeth Van Dee of Missouri and Betty Van Dee of Vining; and brother-in-law, Fred Hotchkiss of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in 2005; her parents; sons-in-law, Larry Regan, Dennis Lathrop and John Huelsenbeck; her grandson, Jay White; her brothers, John, Andrew, Edward and Donald Van Dee; and her sisters, Ida Mahan and Grace Hotchkiss.
Memorials in Mary's name may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or St. Patrick's Church.
