Mary Golden Brockmeyer passed away on March 15, 2024 in Avon, Indiana. Members of her family were at her side. She was 92.
Mary was born on a farm near Scottland, Illinois on April 10, 1931 to Francis (Wasson) and Forrest Huffaker. She was the oldest of eight siblings. She was valedictorian of her high school senior class and went on to attend nursing school at Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing in Danville, Illinois, graduating in 1952. She became the College Nurse at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa where she met her husband, Lloyd Brockmeyer. They were married in 1954 and were together until losing Lloyd on August 30, 2023.
She leaves behind her children Jeff Brockmeyer, Beth Ruhkamp, and Ann Knicley; sister, Lela Wines; grandchildren, Jarod Brockmeyer, Erica Kohl, Hannah Knicley, Jacob and Noah Ruhkamp; and great-grandchildren Jordan Brockmeyer, Hudson Kohl, and Emerson Kohl.
Mary worked in many areas of nursing throughout her career, was on numerous boards, and won a number of nursing awards. She was always active in the churches where Lloyd was assigned and was an active member of PEO and DAR.
Services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1340 3rd Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday, April 20, at 10:00 a.m. The service will be live streamed on the church's YouTube channel at: youtube.com/@StPaulsUMCCR/streams. Her committal will be at 3:00 p.m. the same day at Zion Cemetery in Colesburg, Iowa.
