Mary Ann Peterzalek, 79,
of Marion, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. A parish vigil will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father David O'Connor. Graveside service: 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine on Wednesday.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Charles J. Peterzalek of Marion; children, Jeff (Gerri) Peterzalek of West Des Moines, John (Traci) Peterzalek of Overland Park, Kan., Kathy (Joe Stephenson) Hashemi of Marietta, Ga., Charlie (Jill) Peterzalek of DeWitt, and Karen (Randy) Kessler of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Kyle (Dana), Abbey (Tyler), Hannah (Martin), Chelsi, Cori, Carter, Jake and Anna; a great-grandson, Camden; sisters, Margaret (Jim) Chekal and Janet (Bill) Warren; and a brother, Ron (Katie) Braasch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Herbert and Robert Braasch.
Mary Ann was born March 28, 1938, in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Ann (Fetter) Braasch. She graduated from Blairstown High School in 1956. On Jan. 4, 1958, at St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Charles J. Peterzalek. She worked many years in the printing industry. Mary Ann was a member of the Belle Plaine Legion Auxiliary and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. She enjoyed going to grandkids' sporting events and was an amazing cook. Mary Ann always took care of everyone, especially her family.
