Mary Ann (Lefebure) Costigan, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at her home on September 2, 2025.
She was born on August 23, 1937 to Pat and J.W. Lefebure of Fairfax, Iowa, and was the oldest daughter of eight children. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and received a business degree from Mt. Mercy College. After marrying in 1958 she raised her four children on the northwest side of Cedar Rapids.
Mary Ann worked at General Mills for 35 years while raising her children and completing her college degree. Upon retirement, she fulfilled her dream of owning and operating her own flower shop, Mary’s Flowers on Edgewood Road. She treasured time spent at her vacation home in Cape Canaveral, Florida, walking the beach and watching space shuttle launches. She never missed her weekly hair appointments, which she called her “weekly do”.
A devout Catholic, Mary Ann was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church from its founding. Her faith and family were central to her life. She was a devoted mother and gifted seamstress who was known for her skill in creating beautiful quilts for family members and friends. Her love, kindness, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her and will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gil and Ray; a sister-in-law, Peg; and her son, Kelly.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Patty (Brian) Kruse; sons, Kevin (Michele) and Jayme Costigan; seven grandchildren, Lesley (Jeff) Vossenkemper, Jennifer (Dan) Kruse, Matt (Amy) Kruse, Joe Costigan, Katie (fiancé Carter) Costigan, Shannon Costigan, and Ty Costigan; seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Jayson, Owen, Vivienne, Everett, Margo, and Annabelle; siblings, Don (Peg) Lefebure, Gary (Bonita) Lefebure, Marilyn Lefebure, Dean (Debbie) Lefebure, and Dale (Kris) Lefebure; and many extended family members and of course, her special pet cat, Penny.
Services will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church on Saturday, September 6 at 10:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fairfax, IA.
