Mary Ann Koss, 96, of Dyersville, and formerly of Placid, Iowa, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at 4:28 p.m. at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Mary Ann may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Services for Mary Ann will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at St. John's Catholic Church in Placid, with the Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will be held in St. John's Cemetery in Placid.
She was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of James and Agnes (Krajicek) Dohnalek. She received her education in the Belle Plaine area schools. She went on to teach in a one-room schoolhouse in the Belle Plaine area. On April 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gerald Koss at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2016. The couple farmed in the Mount Vernon area until 1975, at which time they moved to Placid.
She was a member of St. John's Parish in Placid.
She is survived by four children, Sheryl (Charles) Brindle of Belmond, Iowa, Denise (Wayne) Brunsman of New Vienna, Iowa, Sue Koss of Clinton, Iowa, and David (Karen) Koss of Epworth, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Freshour of Marengo, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two great-grandchildren; a brother- and sister-in-law, Wilmer and Margaret Koss; and a brother-in-law, Hersh Freshour.
