MARY ALICE (STEINBRECH) STAHLE
Solon
Mary Alice (Steinbrech) Stahle, 90, of Solon, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at the Solon Care Center. Funeral Mass will be
10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, with Father Tim Sheedy presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 3 to
6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, where there will be a 2:30 p.m. rosary. Brosh Chapel in Solon is caring for Mary Alice and her arrangements.
Mary Alice was born April 12, 1928, in Solon, the daughter of Frank and Pearl (McNulty) Steinbrech. She graduated from Solon High School in 1947. After graduation, she married Paul Stahle on June 3, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. They lived most of their married life on a farm one mile west of Solon.
Mary Alice was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of strong faith. She loved to make everyone who came to visit feel special.
Mary Alice was known for her famous cherry pies. She loved to help by bringing her pies and baked goods to anyone who was sick or lost a loved one. She always was there when you needed her. Mary Alice was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and participated in the Altar Society, church choir and the Solon Care Center Bingo Committee. In her younger days, she enjoyed gardening and did a lot of canning in the summer.
Mary Alice is survived by her husband of 70 years, Paul; her six children, Linda Stahle, Richard (Diana) Stahle, Carol Bedell, Larry Stahle, Janet (Gary) Messinger and Joyce (John) Meyer; 12 grandchildren, Amanda (Bennet) Hammerberg, Scott Stahle, Ben Stahle, Ryan (Stacy) Bedell, Rachel (Tony) Spessard, Christina (Dan) Falvey, Samantha Stahle (Clint Tomas), Sheri (Kyle) Hansen, Nick Messinger, Sarah (Anthony) Green and Megan and Noah Meyer; nine great-grandchildren, Maverick, Jack, Camille, Brooklyn, Reid, Gage, Henry, Cecelia and Cole; many nieces and nephews; a sister, Marge (Ray) Welsh; brothers, Edward (Nargi) Steinbrech and Francis Steinbrech; and a sister-in-law, Irene Steinbrech. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pearl Steinbrech; and a brother, Bob Steinbrech.
Memorials may be directed to either Iowa City Hospice or to Solon Retirement Village in her name.
