Marvin was a lifetime resident of the southwest side of Cedar Rapids until recently moving to the Urbandale Health Care Center with his wife, Leona, to be
near their daughter.
Marvin was born June 19, 1920, to Frank E. and Libbie Rocarek in Cedar Rapids. He was the second oldest of seven children. Marvin met the love of his life, Leona, in 1941, and was married shortly afterward. He was a devoted husband and father, married to Leona for 74 years. Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II in England, France and Germany. Later, he was a member of the American Legion post in Cedar Rapids.
Marvin and Leona were longtime members of the former Eden United Church of Christ. He was a retiree of Penick & Ford and also worked for Midland Forge.
Through the years, Marvin enjoyed bowling, traveling, being with family, John Wayne movies, the Grand Ole Opry, Hawkeye football and was an avid lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. Marvin will be fondly remembered by all as the "guardian angel" of Leona and watching over her until the very end.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Leona; son, Richard (Sue) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Lorna (Roy) Jones of Urbandale/Des Moines; sister, Lillian Montgomery of Watkins; brothers, Robert of Palmdale, Calif., and Don of Las Vegas, Nev.; granddaughter, Laicy (Steve); and great-granddaughter, Abby Marotti of Derby, Kan.; and granddaughter, Shelley Jones of Urbandale.
