Marvin Albert Morstad was born March 16, 1933, in Fordville, N.D. On March 8, 2017, his soul entered heaven to enjoy the eternal life won for him through the death and resurrection of his Savior Jesus Christ.
He was the son of Ole Theodor Morstad and Gina Mabel Espelien. He lived in North Dakota and Iowa for most of his life. Marvin graduated from Fordville High School. He later graduated from North Dakota State College of Science.
Marvin was united in holy marriage to Betty Coleen Pretz at St John's Lutheran Church on Sept. 9, 1956. They were blessed with three sons, Neil, Steve and Lynn, whom they raised in Cedar Rapids and Robins, Iowa. Marvin worked for Rockwell Collins for over 35 years. At Rockwell Collins, Marvin worked in the engineering department. Marvin was proud to have worked on many sophisticated projects during his career for both NASA and the U.S. military.
Marvin was very active in his grandchildren's lives bringing smiles and joy to many birthdays, holidays and other family gatherings. Marvin also enjoyed mowing the grass with his sidekick Peppy and watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football. In Marvin's final years, he was known for his excellent bridge play and love of reading.
Marvin is survived by his children, Neil of Austin, Texas, Steve (Dianne) of Roanoke, Va., and Lynn (Tammy) of Roanoke; and his sister, Juliann of Arizona. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Ashleigh, Breezy and Camlyn; two step-grandchildren, Brianna and Chealsea; and three step-great-grandchildren, Liam, Conor and Tristan.
He will be missed.
