He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, his parents & 2 siblings.
Marvin was born in Denver, Colorado on January 7, 1942 to Marvin & Marth Cory. The Cory family moved from Colorado to Idaho and then to Washington state where they settled. Marvin went to Kent High School in Kent, Washington, and graduated in 1960.
In 1961, he met Mabel Dais at a church youth camp in Oregon. The were married in Tacoma, Washington January 19, 1963. Their daughter, Cynthia, was born May 1964 and the young family moved to Marion, Iowa in 1965. Their daughter, Sheila, was born May 1969. Marvin worked a variety of jobs when they first moved to Iowa; including pouring runways for the Cedar Rapids Airport, as well as working in the Killians Department Store. He then took on a job as a computer operator for Bank of Iowa Computer Services and retired from that job in the early 1990’s. Shortly thereafter, he started working for his daughter, Sheila, for several years.
Marvin was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed taking his daughters, and then grandchildren, out fishing on his boat. He made sure he was never out-fished by anyone else by turning the boat to his advantage! He considered himself the crappie master. He also enjoyed getting on his computer and playing games and keeping up on emails with his family. Most importantly, he enjoyed going to church and was a member of the Church of God, 7th Day, in Marion.
For the last 8 years, Marvin struggled with dementia. In May of 2021, he moved into Bickford of Marion, where he brought joy to others with his humor, smile & laugh. His family & friends will miss his infectious, jolly personality.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Marvin Cory.
