Martin, Theresa Marie
Theresa Marie Martin, 73, of 113 Scenic Dr., Vinton, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at her home following a courageous 6-year battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton by the Rev. Ardel Barta. Burial: 2:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A rosary will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friends may also visit Monday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Theresa is survived by her husband, John “Jack” of Vinton; four children, Dan Martin of Cedar Rapids, Doug (Doreen) Martin of Atkins, Deby (Jamie) Emanuel of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and David (Cindy) Martin of Vinton; five grandchildren, Larry, Amanda, Hunter, Caitlyn and Morgan; eight brothers and sisters, Arlene Brinks of Carroll, Arvilla Oxenford of Des Moines, Eugene (Ruth) Wiskus of Winterhaven, Fla., Arnold (Phyllis) Wiskus of Dedham, JoAnn (Roman) Halbur of Garden City, Kan., Kathleen (Don) Miller of Dedham, Robert (Gay) Wiskus of Manning and Kenneth (Debbie) Wiskus of Coon Rapids; sister-in-law, Judy Wiskus of Audubon; and 34 nieces and nephews.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Marvin, Jerome and LaVern.
Theresa was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Dedham, the daughter of Joe B. and Theresa Bauer Wiskus. She married John Martin on Oct. 25, 1958, in Dedham.
Theresa loved to garden, bird watch and collect seashells in South Padre, Texas.
She was very devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Milhem, Dr. Dearden and their staff, and Joyce and staff of Hospice of Mercy for their care and compassion.
