Martin, Leland R.
Leland R. Martin, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, by the Rev. Lucille King, Parish Associate at Christ Church Presbyterian. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and again Monday after 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Honor Guard Post 727.
Leland is survived by his wife, Enid; son, Curtis (Nam) of Accokeek, Md.; daughter-in-law, Patricia (Arch) Martin-Cooper of Mount Vernon; three granddaughters, Nicoli (Jason) Simmons, Candi Martin and Carrie (Joseph) Moore; one grandson, Timothy Martin (Brittany); three great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Aiden and Shyann; brothers, William R. (Mary) Martin of Cedar Rapids and Oliver (Nan) Martin of Laughlin, Nev.; and sister, Joyce (Mike) Blair of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert H. Martin; brother, Melvin Roy Martin; and sister, Elisabeth Jean Martin.
Leland was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Martinsburg, the son of Willis and Carrie (Kelley) Martin. He served his country in the Navy during World War II from 1942-1946. Leland married Enid McQuiston on April 29, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a machinist at Quaker Oats, Dearborn Brass & Manufacturing, and Nelson Manufacturing.
He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was known for his great sense of humor and told jokes up until the end. Leland loved to travel. He and Enid visited all 50 states.
