Martin, Kenneth William

Kenneth William Martin, 89, a resident of Evergreen Estates III in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Private services and burial will be held by the family. Burial: Wilson Cemetery, Independence. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

Survivors include a nephew, Steve (Robin Brawner) Carter of Marion; niece, Sue (Brian) Hiltbrunner of Des Moines; great-nephew, Dennis (Nicole) Brawner of Marion; great-niece, Kristi Brawner of Marion; and great-great-niece and great-great-nephew, Mikaela and Zachary Brawner.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Kenneth was born March 3, 1922, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Bert E. and Ada (Kepheart) Martin. He graduated from Independence High School class of 1942. Kenneth worked at Penick & Ford in Cedar Rapids for 30 years. After retiring, he worked for Nesper Sign for five years.

Kenneth was an avid nature lover. He enjoyed gardening and was a sports enthusiast who loved watching the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers.
