Marti Jean Sigsbee, 72, of Fairfax, Iowa, formerly of Columbia, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. A livestream of the memorial service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Marti, under "photos and videos or media," starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5.
Marti was born Feb. 2, 1950, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Georgie (Shepherd) and Charles D. Sigsbee III. She graduated from Hickman High School in Missouri. Marti went on to attend the University of Missouri and St. Louis University, earning her master's degree in nursing. She served in the United States Army.
Marti was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandson and spoiling him. Marti enjoyed reading, writing short stories, playing Candy Crush Saga and watching TV.
Survivors include her daughter, Heather (Jason) Watts of Fairfax; grandson, Ian Watts of Fairfax; sisters, Cheryl Sigsbee of Chicago, Ill., Brenda Sigsbee of Joplin, Mo., and Karen Parrott of Missouri; grandcat, Truman Watts; and multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Georgie and Charles D. Sigsbee III; and grandchildren, Hadley Watts and Kennedy Watts.
