Martha "Marty" Pearl (Howell) Weirather of Marion, Iowa, died early Nov. 22, 2021, following a brief illness. She was born on Aug. 20, 1934, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter
of Alice Shuler Howell and Russell Howell.
Marty was a devoted wife and mother. She shared a house cleaning business with Pauline Austin for several years, and later enjoyed being a gift wrapper at Von Maur during the Christmas season. Marty enjoyed gardening, baking, ceramics and a variety of arts and crafts. She enjoyed all kinds of music from her favorite Elvis to Country, Bluegrass, and she always had Leo Grecko Polka on the radio Sunday mornings. Traveling was another favorite interest, visiting numerous states, national parks, cruises, etc. Marty was the ever-busy mother and grandmother who enjoyed attending as many recitals and games as possible.
Marty is survived by her son, Shawn Weirather (Jen) of Elburn, Ill.; daughter, Cathy Weirather of Union, Wash.; son, Steve Weirather (Elaine) of Newhall, Iowa; son, Kenny Weirather (Leslie) of Lisbon, Iowa; daughter, Debbie Sage of Tiffin, Iowa; her grandchildren, Philip, Joe, Cody, Kristi, John, Michelle, Jamie, Maggie and Ethan; and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Edith Wooldridge of Burlington, Iowa; and brother, Delbert Howell of Sun River, Ore.
Marty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill (William) Weirather; mother, Alice; siblings, Ray, Roy, Lee, Donal, Kenny, Charlie, Bobby, Lola and Helen; and son-in-law, Brent Sage.
At Marty's request, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, Marty asked that memorial gifts in her memory be made to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA; www.mercycare.org; Amanda The Panda, a children's grief organization, www.everystep.org/services/grief-loss.
