Martha M. Justice, 99, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 3, 2022. Born Feb. 23, 1923, to Emra and Barbara (Schlabaugh) Kempf in Johnson County, Iowa, township of Washington.
She married Vyrl Justice on Dec. 29, 1945. They lived in Iowa City until 1953, when they moved to Cedar Rapids. Martha and Vyrl started Justice Electric Co. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1961. They continued to manage the business until their retirement. When Martha and Vyrl were not in Cedar Rapids, they were enjoying their winter home in Florida. They were married for 61 years.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, where a visitation will begin at noon until service time. Burial: private at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, David Justice; grandsons, Joe (Nancy) Justice and Jeff Justice; and great-grandchildren, Hailey Justice, Natalie Justice, Carson Justice and Sage Shanahan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vyrl Justice; daughter-in-law, Sherri Justice; great-grandson, Nathan Justice; and siblings: eight brothers, Russell Kempf, Warren Kempf, Wayne Kempf, John Kempf, Lester Kempf, Loren Kempf and Cecil Kempf, an infant sister, and five other sisters, Laureen Kempf, Dorothy Kempf, Alice Kempf, Orpha Kempf and Olivia (Kempf) Abshire.
Martha enjoyed many hours working outside in the yard and enjoyed working in the hosta beds at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was a longtime member of the church and generously volunteered her time and talent. She also was a member of Eastern Star, Daughter of the Nile and PEO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cottage Grove Place Foundation and St. Luke's Hospital Foundation.
We greatly appreciate the staff of Cottage Grove Place who cared for Martha.
