Martha Sue Joyce, 79, of Marion, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include five children, Peggy and James Tempfer of Leitchfield, Ky., Lovona and George Bazal of Vining, Rockie Joyce of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Tiegen of Marion and Randy and Judy Joyce of Marion; 12 grandchildren, Tracey Alan Joyce, Daniel Roy Grapes, Melissa VanMeter, Jennifer Armstrong, Stacy Bazal, April Farley, Megan Rinderknecht, Nicholas Joyce, Michael Tiegen, Jacob Joyce, Travis Joyce and Tristen Joyce; and 18 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew, Natalie, Noah, Abby, Wyatt, Abren, Charlie, Talia, Gaven, Madison, Bailey, Tabitha, Griffen, Payton, Kiowa, Emmalin and Bentley.

Also surviving are her siblings, Margaret and Virgil Joyce of Benton, Ky., Joanne Bonat of Benton, Ky., Linda Jean and Jim Russell of Benton, Ky., Shirley and David McLeod of Benton, Ky., Virginia and Golden Burke of Benton, Ky., and Paul and Gloria Chambers of El Paso, Texas; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Mary Hawkins of Manitau Beach, Mich., Susie and Charles Knight of Gilbertsville, Ky., and Judy White of Gilbertsville, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; and a grandson, Dakota.

Martha was born July 2, 1935, the daughter of Lillie Mae (Jones) and Uple Higgins. On Aug. 5, 1948, she married Albert Thomas Joyce in Hopkinsville, Ky., and was married for 63 years until his death in 2012.

Some of the ways she loved to spend her time were gardening, reading, embroidery and sewing, collecting pretty dishes, playing card games with her family, and old movies and music.
