Mother Martha Jane Jondle, 94, of Shellsburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep July 22, 2014, in the hospice center at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, with her daughters and son-in-law present. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Martha Jane Burgess was born April 1, 1920, in Tony, Wis., to James Daniel Burgess and Olga Burgess. In November 1944, Martha married Charles Jondle and they enjoyed 50 years together. Two daughters were born to this union. Charled died in 1994.
Martha is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Jean Spencer (Elmer) of Shellsburg and Carol Ann Floyd of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Brian Spencer, Tricia Bender, Mia (John) Shreve and Mona Maldonado (Robert); eight great-grandchildren, Charles Destiny Bender, Ashley and Jordan Young, Anthony Evens, Thomas and Ileshia Montesrin, Timothy Evens and Emma Maldonado; and three great-great-grandchildren, Michael and London Evens and Braydon Montesrin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; grandson, Timothy Evens; two sisters, Hazel Seagreen and Violet Mechelke; and a brother, Leo Burgess.
Martha and Charles enjoyed 13 years of travel before his death. Martha always had a smile to share with everyone and a story to tell her grandchildren.
After dad died she moved to Wisconsin with her sister, Hazel. She enjoyed getting reacquainted with her sister. They enjoyed making quilts and various crafts for many years.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grand-children and spending time with all her family.
