Marsha C. Sanders
Cedar Rapids
Marsha C. Sanders, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Christmas Day, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, 5338 Johnson Ave. SW. A celebration of life service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements made by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Marsha was born on Feb. 2, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Norman and Dorothy Bergen. She attended Northwestern College in Roseville, Minn., where she met her husband of just over 55 years, David Sanders. The first time he saw Marsha, David told his brother, “That’s the girl for me.” Throughout the years, Marsha worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at various places, including Calvary Baptist Church, Pratt Audio Visual and Data Management.
Marsha loved listening to music, enjoyed playing the piano, going on walks, and reading. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending church from the time she was a little girl and would play the piano or organ at church. She was a member of New Covenant Bible Church but attended Calvary Baptist when her health worsened. She also enjoyed her grand-dogs Ranger, Recon, Smoky, Sadie and Bailey.
Marsha is survived by her husband, David of Cedar Rapids; son, Michael (Rebecca) Sanders of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Emily (Rev. Keith) Pitts of Delhi; grandchildren, Katie (Dylan) Schwers, Jacob Sanders, Jamiesha, Jamie and Chloe Pitts; brothers, Gary (Karen) Bergen of Waterloo, and Daniel (Jan) Bergen of Warren, Mich.; uncle, Jack (Judy) Mussett of Waterloo; sisters-in-law, Mavis Sanders of Winfield, Ill.; Alice (Thomas) Hamilton of Greenfield, Wis.; Dr. Susan (Jim) McClure of Tucson, Ariz.; JoAnn Sanders of Savage, Minn.; brothers-in-law, Hal Sanders of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Dr. Paul (Gretchen) Sanders of Cambridge, Minn.; Rev. John (Delores) Sanders of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Tom (Marianne) Sanders of Minneapolis, Minn.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Rev. Harold A. Sr. and Hazel Sanders; her brothers-in-law, Mark Sanders and Rev. James Sanders; her sister-in-law, Diane Sanders; and numerous aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the many people who so generously donated their time and attention to care for Marsha. Your kindness can never be repaid.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
