Marsh, Dorotha Jane
Dorotha Jane Marsh, 94, of Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness, although she had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and heart problems for several years. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Jane (her preferred name) is survived by her husband, Wendell; a son, Ken and wife Patti; and daughter-in-law, Judy of Albuquerque, N.M., whose husband, Meel, died in 2006. Also preceded her in death are a sister, two brothers and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jane was born on Feb. 15, 1916, on a farm near Remsen, Iowa. While she was very young the family moved to a farm near Washington, Iowa. She attended Northern Iowa University and taught school until she and Wendell were married on Feb. 18, 1939. Before the onset of Alzheimer's, Jane was talented in floral design, ceramics, dress making and tailoring. During World War II and several years there after, she served as a nurse's aid as well as an active Red Cross volunteer.
