Marlys A. Nelson, 78,
of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Fairfax, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford by the Rev. Mike Townsley. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Friends may also visit with the family after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Marlys is survived by her daughters, Leanne (Spear) Harman of Cedar Rapids and Victoria (William) Wims of Anamosa; son, Richard (Mary) Nelson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Melissa, Rachel, Tim, Keith, Lucas, Adrianne, Justin, Jordan and Nicole; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ron Burns of Tyler, Texas, and Allan (Marlene) Burns of Shueyville; and sister, Darlene (Richard) Prilipp of Mission, Texas.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; daughter, Kathy Nelson; and grand-daughter, Rebecca Harman.
Marlys Ann was born May 20, 1936, in Mason City, the daughter of Merle Tilford and Doris Delphine (Smith) Burns. She married Richard LeRoy Nelson on May 1, 1953. She worked at Motive Power for many years.
Marlys enjoyed spending time with her family, making crafts and sewing. She was a long-time member of Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford where she taught Sunday school and was a vacation Bible school coordinator.
