MARLYS PATRICIA HARRIOTT
Cedar Rapids
Marlys Patricia Harriott, 78, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics of a sudden illness. A visitation will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The service will immediately follow on Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories at 5:30 p.m. A private family burial will be at Campbell Cemetery.
Marlys was born on Feb. 7, 1940, the daughter of Evander and Lucille (Freeman) Vestal in New Hampton, Iowa, and graduated in New Hampton. She was united in marriage to Thomas Lee Harriott on Jan. 21, 1962.
Marlys worked at Collins Radio until they started a family and she became a homemaker. Marlys was an avid volunteer for Treasures Quality Retail Shoppe and Indian Creek Nature Center, and made baby blankets, hats and booties for Project Linus. Marlys and Tom enjoyed spending time in Guttenberg, Iowa, at their cabin and traveling. They spent many years attending their five grandchildren's activities and events.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Bernadine George and Phyllis Carr.
Left to cherish Marlys' memories are her husband, Tom Harriott; children, Jim (Kathy) Harriott and Chuck (Ronda) Harriott, both of Cedar Rapids; and five grandchildren, Kalli, Jacob, Bradly, Nicholas and Madison. Also surviving are her siblings, Lois Betzer and Dale Vestal of New Hampton, Iowa, and Lynn Vestal of Waterloo, Iowa. She fondly enjoyed time with their furry family members, Annie, Baker, Jack and Laker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Indian Creek Nature Center or Project Linus in Marlys' honor.
