Marlys Evelyn Garbe, 85, a resident at Prairie Hills of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, located at 915 27th St., Marion, Iowa, conducted by the Rev. Gregory Williamson. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Graveside service and burial will take place Friday, Dec. 28, at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minn. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, Iowa.
Marlys was born on Oct. 22, 1933, the daughter of Dwight and Evelyn (Erickson) Johnson. She married William "Bill" R. Garbe on June 26, 1954, in West St. Paul, Minn. Marlys was a fantastic homemaker and took great care of her children and grandchildren. She was active in various Lutheran churches in all the places where she resided. Marlys enjoyed playing cards, cooking, attending Bible studies, making crafts and doting on her grandchildren.
Marlys is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Scott (Susan) Garbe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Steven (Jennifer) Garbe of Lincoln, Neb.; sister, Nancy (Howard) Unruh of West St. Paul, Minn.; seven granddaughters, Anna Garbe, Sarah Garbe, Bethany (Captain Kevin) LaCosse, Jessica Garbe, Kristen Garbe, Rachel Garbe and Megan Garbe; two great-grandchildren, Ann-b'yon and Lane; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; daughter, Sharon; and special friend, Wayne Tuttle.
In memory of Marlys, memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later time.
