Marlyn E. Stevens, 84, of Marshalltown, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Nov. 4, 2016, at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m.
Inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Marlyn was born on Nov. 12, 1931, to Bert and Ruby Ullom Stevens in Hastings, Neb. He was raised and attended school in Cedar Rapids.
Following his education, he enlisted with the U.S. Army, serving in Korea where he was injured attempting to escape as a prisoner of war. Marlyn's life was devoted to the U.S. military. After his discharge with the Army, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He held rank as a technical sargent, working in aviation electronics. Following his military career in 1973, he began work at Rockwell Collins as a machinist until his retirement in 1994.
Marlyn was married to Genevieve Auen, and to this union one son was born. The couple later divorced. In 1976, he was united in marriage to Darlene Dobesh.
Marlyn was a devoted fisherman and enjoyed going to his cabin in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, for some quality time with his family. Later in life, he began woodworking, crafting birdhouses and yard ornaments.
Marlyn will be missed by his ex-wife, Genevieve Stevens; son, Jay Stevens; brother, Robert Stevens, sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Kris Stevens; stepdaughter, Melody; stepson, Steve; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; brother, Gilbert; and sister, Betty, and her husband, Rene Levesque.
