Marlene Kay Neuhaus, 72, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away following a courageous cancer battle; January 14, 2024 at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, IA.
Marlene was born April 21, 1951 to Gail and Edna (Sommerfelt) Hanner in Waterloo, IA. At a young age she moved with her family to Cedar Rapids; graduating from Prairie High School, class of 1969.
On November 8, 1969 Marlene married Charles “Chuck” Neuhaus at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Together they raised their family in Cedar Rapids. Marlene taught part-time at Boddicker School of Music and was a member of the Cedar Rapids Accordion Aces. As her children grew, Marlene went to work full-time at Perpetual Savings Bank, then in 1990 started at Handimart (eventually becoming Casey’s) for over 20 years; retiring in 2016.
Marlene was an avid reader and as Fox News’ #1 fan, she kept up with recent events. Marlene loved to travel; including two trips to Germany’s October Fest, Italy, France, Czech Republic, and most recently Mexico. She cherished her time camping with Chuck and they enjoyed being called winter Texans. Most of all she was a proud grandmother and momma.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Chuck; children, Cathy (Rick) Senum of St. Paul Park, MN, Tina Permiceo of Henderson, NV, and Matthew Neuhaus of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Keel, Mitchell Jensen, Nate Jensen, Nick McElwee, Adriana Permiceo; step-grandchildren, Jarod Senum, Rikka (Ryan) Wangsnes; great-grandchildren, Caden Keel, Parker Keel; siblings, Darlene Hanner and John Hanner, both of Cedar Rapids, Gail Jr. (Martha) Hanner of Edgar Springs, MO, Diane (Steve) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; and many more loving family and friends.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law, Raymond Permiceo (2021).
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, IA with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lending Closet at Grace Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids or the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Marlene’s name. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com.
