Marlena A. Kerr, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service celebrating Marlena's life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Bob Streeter officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children, Gregory (Barbara) Kerr of Marion, Gary (Crystal) Kerr of Marion and Deanna (Randall) Hixson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Mandrea Dolphin, Steven Evans, Cara Tower and Christopher Dees; and great-grandchild, Ty Dolphin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Kerr in 1996; brothers, Robert, Arlan and Arndt Buhrmann; and sister, Marcella Buhrmann.
Marlena Ardella Buhrmann was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Meyer) Buhrmann. On Dec. 7, 1957, she married James H. Kerr in Cedar Rapids. Marlena worked for the Cedar Rapids Community school district as kitchen cook.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
